So, Starter Appreciation Day... You know, I feel like one of the only trainers out there who doesn't have a close bond with their starter. I mean, I still give him attention and keep him in good shape, but he's just not part of my main battling team, and the Pokémon I've bonded the most with came after him. Is there anyone else like that? It's kind of awkward when my favorite Pokémon came half a year after him.

[Sigh, but that's not what this is really about. He's got other issues to discuss.]

Anyway, got a few things to discuss, so I'd better get to the point. First, I've still got a pretty huge selection of unsold eggs from the Breeding Con. Treeckos, Gligars, Vulpix, Feebas, a Larvitar, some Riolus with Blaze Kick... And a whole slew of other eggs. I'm just throwing that out there in case anyone wants some last minute purchases. Otherwise, I'm selling them to the locals around town.

[He'd donate to the BC if he wasn't afraid of them getting sold at low prices, really. Those moves don't come cheap...]

Also, that anonymous post got me thinking... How do you guys feel about Pokémon trying to learn how to speak? Does it bother you? Confuse you? And I don't mean like Psychics, who can talk to anyone with telepathy. I mean trying to use human words instead of grunts, growls, barks and... well, if yours say their species name, that too. I tried looking for records of Pokémon accomplishing it for Slash and Ace to read, but the most I could find were rumors. Seems like it's pretty uncommon, and I've only seen one or two other Pokémon on the network even try.

[Like that one Meowth Slash couldn't shut up about and some Zoroark who can say "hi".]

So, yeah. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on that, especially given the way people react to nonhumans here, like the one who used to be ponies.

[There's the sound of throat clearing off-camera before a certain Weavile wanders in with a bow.]

Which one was your starter?

I suppose it shouldn't surprise you to hear that I'm all for them learning it if they so choose, though I've never actually seen it happen with any of mine or the other girls'. Of course, that could be because we have Fluttershy. They might feel no need to learn a new language when she can already understand them just fine. Tesla excluded.

[No one can understand Tesla.]

As for starters... well, I can't really imagine being without Spike, but that could be because I just got really lucky with my starter. AJ might be different, though. Her starter when she came back was a Munchlax and she seems to be having quite a bit of trouble with him. I wouldn't be surprised if she's decided to box him permanently.

Two things! Kiyu got all excited and added 'me' to her extensive vocabulary of 'no' just for Slash there.

Secondly... we have talking critters back home. They're summons and can be called on to aid shinobi in battle so... it seems pretty normal to me.

It doesn't bother me...but I don't think it's going to stop surprising me. [ talking animals are not the norm where he comes from. and he's from before youtube so... ]

Hey, I couldn't make it to the Breeding Con, considering I wasn't close to the area. Color me curious! And not to mention interested!

I'll purchase any egg if you still have trouble placing them.

Hearing Pokemon talk sets me at ease, personally. Back home, it's not uncommon for monsters to speak a common language if they are capable. It makes communication a lot easier. I'm often worried when speaking to Pokemon that they're trying to tell me something that they can't easily convey.

Uh...sure, I guess I wouldn't mind if they learned how to talk like us. I'd love to figure out what goes on in the head of one of my Pokemon, even if he just evolved a few days ago!

(She blinks, then her eyes widen a bit. It's not like she forgot, but...)

Wait...today's Starter Appreciation Day?!! I wanted to do something totally awesome with Blaze and hoped Twilight would help me out!

(Said Fire-Flying type is sleeping right behind Dash a few meters away.)

Slacker-- my Nidoking.

[And right on cue, there's a "gruuuugh?" off camera, followed by the purple dino-beast wandering by with a fresh plate of Cookies Riku may've arranged for him.]

True, and when you've got Psychics, they can always bridge the gaps, too. I've got three myself, but that hasn't really stopped Slash from trying anyway.

[Cue a huff off camera.]

[He shrugs and gives a slightly dismissive handwave. Silly Weavile.]

And it's not that I dislike Slacker or anything; it's just hard to really connect with him the same way I have with Flare. Plus, my main team's got a ground type in the form of Quake, who's personality could use plenty of improvement, but his power and typing make for a solid attack force.

Slacker's got some good mixed moves, though. It's just that his poison typing leaves him vulnerable to ground moves.

Two words? Well, it's a start.

And yeah, I've still got some Litwick eggs if you want one.

And I think that's fair. Plenty of worlds don't have talking animals, and even here it's not exactly normal.

Any particular types or species you're looking for?

[He'll go ahead and attach a list of EVERYTHING available. Like a boss.]

Got any type preferences? There's definitely a lot to choose from.

[As for the second bit, he nods. It makes sense that there'd be worlds like that, after all.]

I think a lot of them are, honestly. Sometimes it's easy to guess what they're saying based on body language and vocalizations, but not every Pokémon communicates the same way. Staryus and Starmies don't have faces, for one.

I'm collecting fire types and any creatures that are blue.

[Nods. Ohhh what a helpful guy! Makes his life so much easier.]

And anything cheap. Like Charmander.

Got any Psychics on hand? Might not be the same as them talking directly, but they can at least tell you personally.

[He shrugs and then... oh man. Sorry, Dash, but he can't help but laugh a little.]

Hey, it's not too late to do something. I'm sure even something small would mean a lot to him.

I could always sell you one of my cheaper Charmander eggs-- they only come with Bite and Crunch, but those are moves you can only get from breeding, anyway.

That works for me! The classics are always the best!

[He gives Riku a thumbs up.]

I'm in a good place now for this kind of thing, being that I'm in a city. So I'm taking advantage while I can!

...Yeah I do, I kept trying convince myself that I shouldn't, but it hasn't been working.

...Not really. Ditzy's the only Pokemon I have who actually knows Psychic-type moves, and those are only Confusion and Disable.

(And she has red cheeks after her mini-spaz moment.)

Well, what do you suggest? I wanted to see if I could borrow her Fly and we could all take turns flying around with him. Fluttershy's always liked going slow, and for everyone else...maybe a little faster?

[He'd probably suggest her Ralts if he knew she had one, Psychic type and all, but since he doesn't know, he'll just nod.]

Think Twilight's got an Alakzam, though. And Fluttershy can understand them anyway.

Well, if Twilight's up for it, then why not ask and see what she says? Otherwise, just try and think of other things he likes to do. That's always a good place to start.

Yeah, Fluttershy's great at that and asking Twilight's Alakazam feels weird everytime I hear a response in my head. (A beat, and something suddenly comes to her attention.) Hold on a second...what type of Pokemon is Ralts? 'Cause I've had one for a while.

(She grins eagerly, nodding in total agreement.)

Yeah! Can't really wait for him to wake up; the whole day might go by. And, other than sleeping or training Blaze doesn't really do too much. He was a lot more lively as Charmander, now that I think about it.

[She chuckles, both at Slash's huffy comment and Riku's offhanded dismissal of it.]

Well, I guess it's really more up to them than us. If one of mine starts showing interest, I'll give them all the help I can, until then I'm perfectly fine letting Shy or Starswirl translate for me.

[She shrugs at that.] That's understandable. I personally am still sorting out my main team, but I agree that strategically, there's not really much competition between a Garchomp and a Nidoking.

Well, as for your questions... You are most certainly not the only one. The Pokemon I started out with was completely useless, and I've had a vast preference for some of the ones I caught afterward. I don't believe I've attempted to use mine since several months after I got here.

As for the second... well, I can't say I have a problem with it. I know I was a bit shocked when one of my Pokemon spoke to me via telepathy for the first time, but depending on the Pokemon and the circumstance... well, it could either be fairly convenient or incredibly inconvenient.

It'd make them noisier. Only difference.
