[It's been months since they last talked. Months since they'd even seen each other. And with Terra wide awake now, Riku decides enough is enough and shoots Ven a message via PokéGear.

But the ID no longer exists. Riku instantly feels the weight of a thousand boulders rolling over him.

He tries again to no avail. And again. Maybe he shouldn't be surprised. But still, for one of his most trusted friends to leave without even a chance to hang out for one last time...

There's a reason why he's writing this message in text instead of video.]

Ven's gone.

I don't know how many friends he actually made here, but I figured I'd pass the message along. It's probably what he'd want, right? And it's not like this place ever gives people a chance to say goodbye. Why change things now?

You'd think that after every other disappearance we'd all be used to it, but it never gets easier. Not with the people who really matter. But Kairi's left about a million times now, and I've lost plenty of other friends. Guess it was only a matter of time before he waltzed off, too.

Just... let me know if you wound up with any of his Pokémon, okay? Otherwise, I'll be around.

[Flare raises an eyebrow at that foot tap. That's an odd gesture, and he takes a step to the side, tail swishing. Riku doesn't seem to take notice, as he lets out a sharp sigh and squeezes his eyes shut.

He's been like that for more than ten minutes now. Grumbling, Flare stomps back over to Sora and runs a hand over the top of his snout. Please do something before he starts breathing fire. Really, it's only a matter of time with all this bad attitude.]

[ oh Riku. Sora reaches over and tugs on his best friend's pants. ]

Would you at least sit down? You know you can pass out if you lock your knees while standing up like that.

I'd also tell you that your face might get stuck too, but...

It kinda might be too late for that.

[...Sora. What?

Well, on the upside, the pant leg tugging combined with those silly remarks make Riku slide to the side and open his eyes. Brow furrowed, he shoots Sora a deadpan stare.]

Okay, first of all, my face isn't stuck. Second? I'm pretty content where I'm at.

[ look at that, Flare, Sora wins this round.

Sora isn't giving a goofy smile either. just a soft one. ]

Promise you'd like it better right here.

I'm not budging. You'd have to drag me down to get me to sit right now.

[Because he's grumpy and feels stubborn. Fight him.

[ and then Sora's tugging on Riku again. either come down here or lose your pants, bro. ]

[Oh, so that's how you wanna play, huh?

Then he's totally going to latch onto this tree with one of his arms. This has totally become the next greatest challenge. Can he survive the onslaught of tugs or shall humiliation seize him?

Probably the latter, but he gets an A for effort, right?]

[ yeah, it's a good effort even though it's futile. the childish game is getting through a little.

but TUG TUG TUG. C'MON RIKU. ]

[You know what he's gonna do, Sora?

Nudge you with his foot. Yeah. What now?

Flare plants himself just a few feet away, watching with a smirk. This is getting pretty good...]

[ oh... oh it's on now.

like Sora snatching that foot up. and unfastening shoes. 8T ]

[And now he's proceeding to kick Sora's hand. Lightly. He doesn't want to hurt him, but c'mon. Not his shoe!]

[ fine then. he'll lunge for the other one to make it match the kicking one. 8P ]

[Which prompts Riku to relinquish his hold on the tree and attempt to once again slide away... while Sora's grabbing his shoe. Gee, could this get any more awkward?]

[ yes, because it is going to. because Sora is becoming a koala and Riku's leg is his tree branch. ]

[Okay, this is just getting awkward. So awkward that Riku nearly stumbles when Sora latches onto him.

Now, really, Sora. Riku is a tree. Do you want to become smashed beneath his trunk?]

[ ~~still can't look at it with a straight face~~. but Riku won't. because Sora is his best friend and best friends don't do silly things like smash each other.

but he is going to be dead weight until you sit your barely there butt down. ]

Why are you so desperate?

[Seriously, Sora. Nothing wrong with standing up!]

I'm not, really.

[ a shrug. ]

You need it more than I really want it.

So why do I get the feeling you're not gonna let go?

[SIGH. This is Sora, after all.]

[ and so he does. Sora releases Riku and sits back against that tree. ]

[No more than two seconds later, Riku's legs wobble, and he lets out a sharp groan. Thanks to the weight on his leg, it along with his foot have fallen asleep, and so he slides down to the ground.

Touché.]

You planned this all along, didn't you?

[He jabs Sora with his elbow.]

[ smiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiile. success! give him his achievement! ]

Do I look like the type of guy who could plan that out before doing it?

...On second thought, no. You're way too dense to pull of something this crafty.

[He'll even tap his knuckles on Sora's head to emphasize this.]
