[ since it's summer and they aren't going from beach to beach this time, Sora has to think of other ways to spend the time. yeah sure there's a lot going on work-wise, but all work and no play, right?

thankfully there's not much good old fashion horseplay to be had. instead Sora's carrying a huge watermelon inside. he's got plans you see. ]

[Riku's been meaning to hit the water park, but with the opening of the Breeding Center, he's certainly had his hands full. But his shift's over, and he's ready to chill out. So, for the moment, he's hanging on the couch, an ice cream bar in hand because, hey, it's hot, and a guy's gotta cool down somehow.

He sits up when he spots Sora, though, and stares at that big ol' fruit.]

So, what's with the melon?

[heartdive]

Isn't it obvious? What else are you gonna do on a hot summer night? We're gonna cut it open, eat it, and have a spitting contest.

[ see? PLANS. ]

A spitting contest.

[He snorts, then snickers, shaking his head.]

Man. I should've known.

[He chomps another bite of his ice cream and then slides down from the couch.]

Just give me a sec to finish this, all right? I don't want it to melt.

[heartdive]

You've got to at least have a little fun with your food.

[ Sora snickers, coming closer to his friend as the other slides off of the couch.

he looks at the ice cream and then to Riku. then he gets an idea. ]

It's not going to melt that fast... But if you need it to be eaten first -

[ that's when Sora swoops in. he leans over and snatches a bite of that ice cream bar and starts to head outside. don't want to make a mess of the inside, right? ]

Yeah? Well, what do you expect me to--

[He stops as soon as Sora takes that bite. He's close-- or he was, but then he just had to turn away.

Well, joke's on him because Riku's bolting right after him.]

Thought you could get away, huh?

[He waves the stick like a person might wave their index finger in a cocky or semi-scolding gesture.

But then he takes another bite because he really does wanna wrap this up. Competition! It's what he lives for.]

[heartdive]

[ Sora's grin doesn't waver, but he's rolling his shoulders in a shrug. ]

I wasn't trying to get away. Maybe give you some encouragement.

[ now he's just sticking his tongue out at Riku. ]

You should get a plate and a knife.

Hmm. If that's what you want, then you're gonna have to try harder.

[He gives him one of those coy smiles of his before slinking toward the kitchen. He'll finish his treat and get the plate and knife in one fell swoop.

And then he's totally gonna win that contest. Really.]

[heartdive]

[ by the time Riku comes back? Sora's already outside, sitting on what passes as a porch. the watermelon is there on the ground. between his legs and he's kind of playing with it. rolling it back and forth. ]

I don't have to try too hard to get your attention, by the way.

Yeah, because if I look away for even a minute, you'll probably end up knee deep in trouble.

[Well, he'll set the dishes down, though not without a little laughter.]

You know, if you want to play with it so bad, we can always cut another melon.

[heartdive]

Probably. [ it is kind of true. ] Or it's just my winning personality and dashing good looks.

[ then Sora just breaks out into a fit of laughter. all the while he takes the knife and a huge plate so he can start sectioning off the melon. ]

But I was just getting bored waiting on you.

[islandshore]

Uh oh. Am I gonna have to keep that ego in check?

[He flashes a grin. Hey, he's not denying anything. That's a plus, right?

In the mean time, he's gonna hover around that melon.]

[heartdive]

[ Sora makes a PFFFT sound. his gaze is still on the melon, of course. he's not going to look away while he cuts it and starts to put some on the smaller plates. ]

Here I thought it was me keeping you in check.

[islandshore]

There might be a balance. Maybe.

[He waves his hand from side to side, then plops down beside him.]

But usually it's me keeping you in line. Always has been.

[heartdive]

[ Sora grins. he knocks Riku with his shoulder. ]

Ah huh. Sure it is. What kind of fantasy are you living in today?

[And he'll knock him right back. They are a shining beacon of maturity...]

Well, there aren't any princesses.

[He still remembers that pink paint, man. He remembers...]

Really? [ grins ] Kinda looking at one right now.

[ then Sora picks up a giant piece of watermelon and takes a bite out of it. ]

Man, are you ever gonna let that go?

[Ugh. Well, he's gonna go ahead and grab his own piece before chomping down. Sora, please...]

[ nom nom nom. can't hear you over the nom nom nom. ]

[Chew, chew, chew, spit!

Thankfully, he's not spitting at Sora's face, but he is gonna reach out to ruffle his hair.]

Just wait. I'll get you one of these days.

[heartdive]

[ don't mind Sora, Riku. this time he might actually lean into the ruffling. at least he's smiling while spitting seeds. ]

[See, that just makes Riku lean closer, his sly smirk impossible to miss.]

Hmm, I'd say I got a few points in my favor, like what happened in the hallway...

[He's trying to look suave. It may not work, but he's giving it his best shot.]

[ oh. Riku doesn't have to be suave. just the memory makes color bloom on Sora's cheeks.

and maybe he's choking on some melon. or that might be him clearing his throat. ]

One or two points. Tops.

[Oooh, a blush. That just makes Riku's grin grow even wider after he casually chomps another bite.]

More than just one or two, I'd say. Don't forget what happened after that whole princess mess.

[He tips his chin up, pleased with himself.]

[ yeah that blush is now reaching his ears. just... going to shove his mouth with more watermelon.
