24th - video/action for Olivine;

[When the feed starts up, it's upside-down, but there's a clear shot of a very angry Riku standing next to a large pile of exhausted Pokémon including a very large Charizard, Feraligatr, Nidoking, Scizor, Lucario, and a Rotom, which manages to float over to the Gear and slowly lift it up.

Riku, however, looks less than impressed.]

Get back up! You can't just sit there.

[The Pokémon groan and shift a little, but alas, they're just too exhausted to keep going.]

C'mon. You're going to keep fighting, you got that? I don't care how tired you are.

[There's a sad sounding vrrrrrm from Surge, who hovers over to Riku.]

See? If Surge can do it, so can--

[Aaaand then the Gear falls. Looks like even Surge didn't have the energy to keep going.]

Can't believe this...

[After a moment, he scoops up the Gear and shuts it off. Those in Olivine are free to see this unpleasant display. A little while after his defeat, Riku's going to be working his team incredibly hard, putting them up against each other.

Someone's a sore loser, to say the least.]

[Sorry, Riku, he didn't mean to alarm you]

It was a long time ago, and Master Eraqus was nothing like him. The reason I told you that is so you know what I mean when I say pushing too hard can be bad. Sometimes, it's dangerous.

... Right.

[Sigh. Ven does have a point, but still... Losing a battle to someone like Leon, who'd already scolded him in the past about the way he handles his team. It stings.]

What happened, anyway? I know you train a lot, but this seems different.

Leon beat me.

[Short, sweet, and to the point.]

[identity profile] freshbreeze.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
...It really bothers you when you lose, huh?

[action]

[identity profile] islandshore.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
[No words, just a nod. Hopefully that's enough in this case.]

[identity profile] freshbreeze.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
[For a few moments, Ven's quiet. He can understand being frustrated, it's just the response to it that differs]

You'll get stronger, but what I've learned is you have to be patient. And sometimes when you lose, there're things you wouldn't learn if you'd won.

[action]

[identity profile] islandshore.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
... Right.

[He does plan on covering his losses somehow, but Riku's an impulsive teen. He doesn't always stop and think these things through.]

Back when Master Eraqus took me in, I lost a lot of sparring matches. And it was really discouraging, but Terra and Aqua supported me and helped me learn from it. So I know it works.

[action]

[identity profile] islandshore.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Guess you would, huh?

[Siiigh. But Riku's stubborn and likes to push himself... Even if it's not always effective.]

[action]

[identity profile] freshbreeze.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Your team's really strong already, one loss doesn't change that. But you know, I bet you could come up with a strategy to counter the one they lost to.

[identity profile] islandshore.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
If I could figure out how to deal with entry hazards, maybe.

[He groans.]

Stealth rocks, toxic spikes... Flare doesn't have to worry about the spikes, and neither does Surge, but stealth rocks hit just about anything that switches out.

[action]

[identity profile] freshbreeze.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds tough, but there's gotta be something you can do.

[action]

[identity profile] islandshore.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Otherwise the moves are too cheap. There has to be something that can knock them away.

[action]

[identity profile] freshbreeze.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe if you got something that had a shell, it could handle those things.

[action]

[identity profile] islandshore.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe, but I've got some pretty sturdy Pokémon already. They weren't exactly immune to the traps.

[action]

[identity profile] freshbreeze.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
There must be a move that could knock those things away then, right?

[action]

[identity profile] islandshore.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd think there would be, but I haven't seen anything yet.

[Which means he needs to look harder, clearly.]

[identity profile] freshbreeze.livejournal.com 2011-09-06 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Betcha if we did some research, we could figure it out.

[action]

[identity profile] islandshore.livejournal.com 2011-09-06 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I was thinking of doing. Just have to figure out where to start.

[action]

[identity profile] freshbreeze.livejournal.com 2011-09-06 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
You could ask Nurse Joy, she knows all sorts of things. Or visit the Professor in New Bark.

[action]

[identity profile] islandshore.livejournal.com 2011-09-07 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I really don't want to head back to New Bark.

[That being said, maybe the Nurse does know.]

It's not so bad when you can fly, is it?

[action]

[identity profile] islandshore.livejournal.com 2011-09-07 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Still, it's a pretty long flight, and it's not like I'd be sticking around.

[action]

[identity profile] freshbreeze.livejournal.com 2011-09-08 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Guess that's true. I don't think the sticking around part's a problem though.
