islandshore: (Rival Riku wants to battle!)
[Well, after backtracking to Olivine for a few days, Riku and Ven are back in business over in the wonderful land of Kanto. So, today's broadcast begins in the Cerulean Gym, where Riku's poised and ready to go against Misty and her team of water types. He's got six powerful Pokémon by his side, including a Haunter, a Rotom, a Dragonite, a Garchomp, a Lucario, and... a Charizard?

Well, the first Pokémon Riku sends out his his Rotom, surge, while Misty calls for her Floatzel...]

[The video starts up again outside the Gym, with Riku's Pokémon close by. He holds up the badge for a moment and grins before leaning back against the frame of the door.]

So, that's four Kanto badges down, and four Elite Teams for good measure. Not bad, if you ask me.

[He tosses the badge up and down.]

Anyway, here's a question to you guys. What do you think is more important? Using the right types and powerful Pokémon or using a Pokémon that's important to you, even if the odds are against it?

And what are your thoughts on evolution?

[With that, he'll be exploring the city and gathering supplies. After all, he and Ven intend to hit Mt. Moon before long, which means they'll need to get their act together. It could be a long trip.

Should anyone else be around town, they'll find him surrounded by his team of six, all of which are rather large, except Surge. It's hard to miss a guy surrounded by an oversized Charizard, Garchomp, and Dragonite, after all.]
islandshore: (snap)
[It's been a rough few days for Riku. He made it through the ice cave quickly, thanks to Flare's fire power and Jaws' speed, but he's still exhausted. Traveling alone just isn't the same as going with a group, especially when you're stuck in a chilly cavern.

But sometime during the late morning hours, he'll finally make it to his destination, and as the feed starts up (courtesy of Blade), there's a nice shot of the Blackthorn Gym as Riku takes on the final gym leader.]

Gym Battle! )

[Shortly after obtaining his badge, Riku starts up another feed, grinning as he holds up all eight badges.]

Well, what do you know? The Blackthorn gym was almost a challenge. Gotta give her credit for trying. [He tucks away the badge case.] But she just doesn't have what it takes to beat me.

[He looks over at his big ol' Pokémon. Quake is still panting from the duel with Kingdra, and Flare's still a bit damp from the waterworks. The others are looking just fine, however; he's swapped out Jaws for his Pidgeot, and if one looks carefully, they might spot an Aerodactyl and Skarmory in the background.]

Anyway, I'm heading back now. Think I'll stop in Ecruteak City for the night. Let me know if you see this, Ven. If not, I'll catch you later.

[He puts the rest of his flying types into their Pokéballs and hops onto his Charizard's back. Then the feed ends.]

[He'll finally make it to Ecruteak very late at night, around the midnight hours. At that point he'll check into the Inn for the night. Feel free to bump into him in Blackthorn or Ecruteak and Mahogany during the brief stop he makes to grab some food. ]

[ooc: Quick travel through the ice path was mod approved-- he used his Charizard to melt the ice and rode on his Feraligatr. :|b Badge also approved.]
islandshore: (RIKU used LEER!)
Video/Action: Gym Battle )

[Sometime after the battle, Riku can be seen by the beach of Olivine city, surrounded with... a lot of powerful Pokémon. Flare, Quake, Ace, and Blade are all there, along with Gaia the Tyranitar and Slash, who is now a Weavile. After a nice closeup of the Weavile's face, Slash sets the Gear back down and scurries over to his trainer. He'll take it from here.]

You know, I'm running out of challenges here. Most of my team's above level 50, they're all evolved except Phantom, and that last battle was a cakewalk.

I need a serious battle, something that'll test my limits. Quick gym battles are nice and all, but I won't get any better by facing them.

[In other words, he wants some new rivals, not that he'll say it outright. But once he's made his statement, Riku closes the feed. For the next hour or so, he'll be hanging around the beach with his Pokémon. Feel free to spot him at any time!]

[ooc: Yes, the badge was mod approved.]
islandshore: (Rival Riku wants to battle!)
[It's been about a week or two since Riku's had a Gym Battle, so when he approaches Whitney, boy does he look eager to dive right in.

Instead of sending his Pokémon out right away, he waits for Whitney to make her move. Within seconds, she sends out her Girafarig, prompting Riku to laugh. So this is the girl Puddles' heart is set on...

Normal/Psychic, which means ghost attacks won't do any good. That leaves dark as the main weakness. After a bit of deliberation, Riku tosses a Pokéball forward, and Jaws appears with a roar.

He does take a moment to look at his opponent with a frown. Isn't that Puddles'...?]

Don't just sit there. Use Crunch!

The rest of the battle lies below the cut... )

[ooc: Feel free to spectate or whatever you wish! He'll be leaving the gym shortly after the battle, so he can be encountered outside, too.]
